An alternative view of the Wonka factory
Damon shares the origins of a film and book about sugar that he has spent the past 4 years working on. He explains what happened to his mind and body after eating a high sugar diet for 60 days without touching any junk food. He discusses the journey of making the film and the experts he met along the way plus how he got a sneak peak under the veil of the food and sugar industry matrix. He also shares the response to the film and the programs that are expanding every day to take the message further and wider and in particular, to the generation that needs it the most.
As an actor, Damon Gameau has starred in several feature films including Rolf de Heer’s The Tracker, and Robert Connolly’s Balibo opposite Anthony LaPaglia for which he was nominated for an AFI award. On the other side of the camera, he wrote and directed the 2011 winning Tropfest short film, Animal Beatbox. 'That Sugar Film' is his first feature film and is currently the highest grossing Australian documentary of all time. The accompanying book, That Sugar Book is now a best seller and will be translated and released in a host of countries including the UK and USA.
Do All The Things: How To Make A Passion Project Work
JO WALKER, EDITOR, frankie magazine
Jo will take you through the frankie story from the very beginning when it was just a vision to the household magazine must-have it is today. Through this success story and her own journey you'll learn about the obstacles that many creatives face when launching a passion project. If you're looking for some inspiration and tips on pursuing your dream project, this is an hour not to be missed.
Back when it all began, frankie magazine founders Louise Bannister and Lara Burke could think of nothing better than spending their days op-shopping and drinking cups of tea.
One day they put together a plan to start a magazine. With the support and encouragement of youth lifestyle publishing house Morrison Media, their dream became a reality. A few years later their friend Jo Walker was called up to take over as editor and assist in tea-making duties. Since then, a whole load of lovely people have filled out the frankie family tree and helped bring this little mag to the world.
Jo’s job mainly consists of coming up with ideas and vaguely bossing people around, as well as writing, sourcing content and proofing the mag. In her spare time she plays air guitar, watches John Oliver on the telly, eats Lebanese food and collects ugly 1960s furniture. Has been known to play Led Zeppelin in the office.
